The Importance of Data in the Government

Abstract:

You've probably heard that data is more and more important across the private sector. This is true in government as well. With the passage of the Evidence-Based Policymaking Act, agencies across the Federal Government are required to think about the data required to design and implement their policies and processes. Agencies are also now required to have a Chief Data Officer, and even traditionally non-data employees interact with data. There's been a push across agencies to embark in both data upskilling for technical employees and general data literacy for all employees. There's also been a push to hire for data scientists and other data specialists, including a new job series that's specifically for hiring data scientists.
