
Abstract: Value Management is a fundamentally new approach to health care delivery. It emphasizes maximizing value by achieving the best health outcomes at the lowest cost based on a patient’s condition. This approach was defined by healthcare subject matter experts and is supported by leading healthcare organizations around the world. Learn how the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is leveraging this innovative approach and analytics tools for VistA Evolution, the largest healthcare modernization effort in U.S., influencing over 1,700 facilities and 9.1 million patients.
Bio: Nathan Tierney is a retired military officer and former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of a software development and analytics company. He provided executive leadership for cross-functional U.S. and overseas teams to create data analytics tools and white label applications for detecting propensity to treat and avoid insurance fraud. Nathan authored the book Value Management in Healthcare, How to establish a Value Management Office to support value-based outcomes in healthcare. In 2016, his approach was awarded the Predictive Analytics Award for Best Use of Data for Public Good. Currently, he leads Value Management efforts the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
