Passive Privacy-respecting Collection of DNS Transaction Data

Abstract:

All Levels to the rest of the internet, dns is metadata, used to discover, describe, and reach internet assets. within dns itself, some data has more personally identifiable information (PII) than others, and it is possible by collecting and analyzing this data to indirectly study the internet itself. as this is especially valuable for behavioural security work, it is vital that the identity and behaviour of individual users either be ambitiously scrubbed, or never collected. In this 45-minute talk, Dr. Vixie will demonstrate how this can be done, and what internet analysis is thus enabled.
