Convergence and Critical Mass: The Fusion Moment for Biopharma
Convergence and Critical Mass: The Fusion Moment for Biopharma

Abstract:

The life sciences community has reached a moment where the volume, velocity, variability, and value of data has reached such proportions as to reach a critical mass that cannot be contained. In this moment of convergence, seeking passionately to make a remarkable impact in the lives of patients, how do we unlock the information that makes cures possible? In this talk we will lay the groundwork explaining why for the sake of biopharmaceutical research and for human life we must transform the way the industry sees and uses data. We will discuss how data is currently used in the pharmaceutical discovery and development process, and the transformation that must ensue. We will examine how our approaches to the evolutionary path leading to data driven impact on patients must leverage 'AI' capabilities to hone, amplify, and scale that impact. Lastly, we will discuss why the industry must take this opportunity to review the data, information, and knowledge that currently lies locked away behind intellectual property ownership barriers to differentiate that which is truly strategic in proprietary value from that which carries a moral imperative to be shared with the world.

Bio:

"Brian joined AbbVie in October of 2018 as the head of the newly formed RAIDERS team within Research & Development’s Information Research division, focused on accelerating, scaling, and amplifying the work of AbbVie’s R&D community using AI technologies like machine learning, deep learning, cognitive computing, and Robotic Process Automation. Brian came to AbbVie after spending five years in technology consulting across many industries, and over a decade of additional experience before that working in trading and financial markets technology. While his primary focus is AI technologies, his interests are much broader, and he has presented at multiple conferences on topics including optical networking, quantum computing, blockchain, cognitive architecture, and other emerging technology concepts that are all part of digital transformation.
Brian holds a B.S. degree in Computer and Cognitive Science from Alma College and a M.S in Computer Science from the University of Chicago"
