Nithish Kannen

    Nithish Kannen is a researcher (AI resident) at Google DeepMind, where he is part of the Foundational Research Unit led by Zoubin Ghahramani. In particular, he focusses on Fairness and Interpretability in Multimodal Models (vision + language). Recently, he is interested in the multiculturality and cultural inclination of foundational models and their agentic capabilities. He has previously worked with Amazon Alexa, London and IBM Research AI, India on problems in ranking, neuro-symbolic learning, contrastive learning and dialog. He graduated with an Integrated Masters degree from IIT Kharagpur where he won the Best Master Thesis Award for his work on Contrastive Pre-Training for Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis. He has published papers and serves as a reviewer in premiere AI and NLP conferences.
